About McHenry County Conservation Foundation

Established by the McHenry County Conservation District in December 1999, the McHenry County Conservation Foundation (MCCF) is recognized as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and preservation of open space in McHenry County.  Governed by a volunteer board of directors, MCCF strives to create and foster conservation partnerships that promote sound stewardship of our county’s natural environments.

The purpose of the McHenry County Conservation Foundation is to promote, support, assist, sustain, and encourage the charitable, educational, scientific, and recreational programs projects, and policies of the McHenry County Conservation District and other Open Space Organizations.”  (MCCF By-Laws, 1999)

The McHenry County Conservation Foundation continues to work diligently in partnership with other conservation organizations and state and federal agencies to protect and manage the natural resources of the county.  In our ten-year history, we have provided funds to support over 30 wide-ranging conservation projects.  We also have assisted in several significant land acquisitions, resulting in the preservation of nearly 800 acres, and savings for the District of over $1.47 million with secured grants and closing costs. We have managed additional state, foundation and private grants to help expand natural areas restoration and conservation research, and to reach more county residents through conservation education programs. All told, the McHenry County Conservation Foundation has directed $3,428,123 in grants and other funding for conservation projects throughout McHenry County, with $2,954,881 going directly to the Conservation District in support of their acquisition and management programs. Lastly, in 2001 and again in 2007, we ran two successful Open Space Bond Referendums, ultimately providing $141.5 million in funds to purchase open space and manage it for the public benefit.

We use membership funds to help offset our costs for writing and administering grants, researching funding opportunities, and running Open Space Referendums.  MCCF offers a complete membership program for individuals, families, and businesses, allowing you to play a personal role in efforts to protect and manage the natural resources of the county. Your tax-deductible membership or donation will make a difference in McHenry County today and forever.
